McKinley, Palm Springs (760) 864-4181 Tonight we thank the Friends and Neighbors of Chino Canyon.Your of support for the neighborhoods of Chino Canyon last Friday was inspiring. We now urge the City Council to move to address the life-threatening construction mess at the top of Racquet Club Road, renamed the"Wreck-It Club"Road, and Milo Drive. This condition endangers our entire neighborhood. However,Assistant City Manager Tom Wilson, insisted that the:city can do nothing to stop the development. This is an obvious minimalization of a very serious concern, of lots of really nervous people. Also, the magnificent entrance to Palm Springs-the Chino Canyon, the Tram, and the National Monument in our back yard, being torn up like a side of beef between rapacious developers, is a concern to everyone in Palm Springs. This project is just the beginning. And it's an unsafe eyesore. The meeting was to begin a reconcilation between the project and the isolated and entombed residents at the top. Those residents made a counter-offer as agreed, and delivered it Monday morning. The most slope for safety is 22 degrees. The 25-foot-high rock pile is close to 90 degrees! We are insisting on a minimal angle of safety, and the removal of the threatening wall of boulders. The project was not noticed to any of the residents for input when it drasticly changed from single-pad grading to mass-grading in 2004. Tuscany Heights has also changed and violated their permits, Calling the counter-offer"unrealistic", Mr. Wilson said that we would have to "go through the process". By that, he means the legal process. It's a hell of a note that you have to take public officials to court to have them carry out their sworn duty-to provide for the safety and well-being of the citizens they're supposed to be representing! We differ in our opinion with Mr. Wilson- It is never too late to stop a life-threatening activity. Our recomrrto 0itions: 1,TSas le ad s to he restored. 2.1r order to prevent this travesty in future: I% also urge a moritorium on Al hillside construction until there has been a thorough review or eirdglhirerrlrn¢g and planning requlramonts, and new gumeUnaz are developed or revised, with sctentufic and counrrrraoniiy Input, and vaiid saf"_a:evd,Xicetionsi Friends and neighbors,we cannot thank you enough. Over 50 people from all around Palm Springs showed up and spoke up. Many residents could not make it that wanted to, so it was really important and greatly appreciated by them. Thanks to each and every one of you, from each and every one of us. including: Chino Canyon, Little Tuscany, Las Palmas, Warm Sands, Downtown, Friends of the Palm Springs Mountains, Palm Springs Chino Canyon Conservancy, Palm Springs Public Counsel, Common Ground, the Progressive Community Coalition, and the Veterans for Peace. http://us.f333.mail.yahoo.com/ym/ShowLetter?MsgId=2146_2863287 22670_708_2289_O... 4/5/2006
