Dear Mayor Pougnet, Mayor Pro Tern Foat, City Council Members Hutcheson, Lewin, and Mills, and City Manager David
Ready,
The Palm Springs Cultural Center is responsible for many beneficial programs in the City of Palm Springs. Some
of these programs included the highly acclaimed Palm Springs Certified Farmers' Markets (in their 5th year),The
Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival in it's 12th year with consistent record attendance), the new American
Documentary Film Festival (Inaugural event with Oliver Stone was this year), Cinema Diverse — The Palm
Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (in its fifth year), the Young Americans Bi-Annual Shows & Music
Outreach Programs at Palm Springs High School, The Earth Matters Film Festival and more. These events
enhance and benefit our Palm Springs Community. They also play a major role in attracting visitors who patronize
local hotels, restaurants, retailers and other businesses, generating a good deal of revenue into the City of Palm
Springs Economy.
I know The Palm Springs Cultural Center has requested the City of Palm Springs to become an annual sponsor by
providing funding, partly in cash and partly through in-kind services in the amount of$30,000.00.

Palm Springs City Council,
This is just a quick note to asking that the PS City Council continue to support the Farmers Market. I enjoy my Saturday
mornings shopping and picking up some fresh veggies. I have never known a head of lettuce, tomato or cucumber to be
political,so please continue to support this fun Saturday morning event.
I have even asked the PSCFM to try and bring htto://Tomatomania.com to our city next year,so financial support from
the city is a must.

Ginny,
don't think I need to tell you how much the Palm Springs Cultural Center's programs and activities means to this
community. Not only to those of us who reside here, but the visitors to our Village that also support their
continued operations through the dollars that they bring in. I take these programs for granted and it
never occurred that they relied on our City Council to help defray operating expenses. I guess when
it comes down to it, you and Council have to weigh the dollars gained through continued support to
the dollars allocated to the Cultural Center. I find it difficult to believe that the gains more than
outweigh the expense. This is Palm Springs and these the Center's programs and activities are part
of the core that makes this Village tick.
I know you already support the Center, but it never hurts to let you know that your constituency does
also.

Subject: Sponsoring the Palm Springs Cultural Center
Importance: High
Dear Steve, Ginny, Rick, Chris, Paul and David -
I understand that you will be discussing funding special events tomorrow night at
Council and wanted to personally request that you once again consider becoming a
major sponsor of The Palm Springs Cultural Center and its events. There should be a
letter in your packet detailing this request.
As a resident, local business owner, and now, through my direct involvement with The
Palm Springs Cultural Center, I have seen the many benefits this organization and its
diverse array of programs bring to our community, and I truly believe it is in the city's
best interest to support the work the Cultural Center does.
Supporting the Cultural Center enables us to present not just one, but several popular
annual events, including the weekly Palm Springs Certified Farmers' Market (now in its
fifth year), the Palm Springs Summer Certified Farmers' Market (now in its second year),
The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival (which just completed its twelfth year with record
attendance), the inaugural American Documentary Film Festival (with Oliver Stone),
Cinema Diverse - The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (now in its fifth year),
The Magic of Christmas starring the Young Americans (returning in 2012), the Young
Americans Music Outreach Program at the Palm Springs High School, The Earth Matters
Film Series and more.
Palm Springs Cultural Center events provide year-round benefits to residents, local
businesses, and to the city itself through increases in TOT and sales taxes. Many of our
special events have actually been timed specifically during shoulder season periods to
help attract visitors when local businesses need more business. Others get the Palm
springs name out to communities and niche markets that might otherwise not visit Palm
Springs. All of them are done with the very best interests of our city at heart. I sincerely
hope you will choose to once again invest in our programs.
Best,
Michael

More specifically, as the producer and host of the Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival for the past five years, I understand
the significant, positive impact that this four-day film festival has had on the Palm Springs community.
The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival is sustained via our core audience in the Coachella Valley as well as numerous film
fans who attend from out of town.
After 12 years, the festival has become an eagerly anticipated cultural event that has become an integral cultural
event for the Palm Springs community.
Support by local government of this festival and other Palm Springs Cultural Center programs is critical to the future
viability of this and other events while enhancing the international reputation of Palm Springs as a diverse, cultural
beacon that residents can take pride in and visitors will return to.

Good Morning Mr. Mayor, Mayor Pro Tern Foat, City Council Members and City Manager Mr. Ready:
The Palm Springs Cultural Center is a unique and valuable resource for our community. It operates the Certified Farmers'
Market and a wonderful multi use theater which not only screens important global films unavailable elsewhere in the
valley, but also invites a wide variety of other screenings and film festivals such as the Native American, The Film Noir,
The Jewish Film Fast, The Documentary Film Fest and other environmentally sensitive film documentaries.
We urge that our City of Palm Springs continue to sponsor, help fund and support in every way possible the services to
our community through The Palm Springs Cultural Center.
When we moved here 11 years ago there were several reasons we chose this city above all others in our valley: The
Palm Springs Art Museum, the Palm Springs Library and The Palm Springs Camelot Theater which was then the ONLY
art cinema space in this entire area of Riverside County. Over the years it has grown in purpose and stature and now
commands a strong following of citizen supporters.
Please help us continue with this most important asset that makes our community unique and diverse.
Thank you.

Dear Mayor Pougnet, Mayor Pro Tem Foat, City Council Members Hutcheson, Lewin, and
Mills, and City Manager David Ready,
The Palm Springs Cultural Center operates a number of annual programs in Palm
Springs, including their Palm Springs Certified Farmers' Market (now in its fifth
year), the Palm Springs Summer Certified Farmers' Market (now in its second
year), The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival (which just completed its twelfth year
with record attendance), the Inaugural American Documentary Film Festival (with
Oliver Stone), Cinema Diverse — The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival
(now in its fifth year), The Magic of Christmas starring the Young Americans, the
Young Americans Music Outreach Program at the Palm Springs High School, The
Earth Matters Film Festival and more. These events not only enhance the lives of
local citizens, but also attract visitors who patronize local hotels, restaurants, and
retailers.
I understand that The Palm Springs Cultural Center has requested that the City of Palm
Springs once again become an annual sponsor by providing funding, part cash and part
in-kind services in the amount of $30,000.00. I support The Palm Springs Cultural
Center and its programs, and sincerely hope you will approve this request.
Sincerely,
Rita Yribar

Subject: Support for the Palm Springs Cultural Center
Ginny,
I don't think I need to tell you how much the Palm Springs Cultural Center's programs and activities means to this
I know you already support the Center, but it never hurts to let you know that your constituency does
also.
Sincerely,
Evan C. MacGibbon
