C'9OFORNP CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
MAY 3, 2006 CONSENT CALENDAR
Subject: AMENDMENT #7 TO ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND
COMPENSATION PLAN
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: Police Department
SUMMARY:
Requesting City Council approval of Amendment #7 to the Allocated Positions and
Compensation Plan approving an over hire of one (1) Police Officer and one (1) Police
Sergeant
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution No. , "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PALM SPRINGS APPROVING AMENDMENT #7 TO THE ALLOCATED
POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN, ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION 21284."
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The Department currently has one officer and one sergeant on long-term disability
leave. Neither the officer nor the sergeant are not expected to return to work. In
addition, two other officers are currently on medical leave.
The over hire will allow the police department to commence the recruitment and
training phase for the new police officer and sergeant which will replace the officer and
sergeant on long-term disability. The disability issue is expected 'to be resolved within
eight to twelve months. At that time, it is expected that the position incumbents will
have retired from service and the over hire position will then be eliminated.
