Ready, City Manager Initiated by: Public Works & Engineering Department SUMMARY This item requests the City Council to review the list of Class II Bike Lanes by priority and give direction to staff regarding proceeding with a capital improvement project to construct selected Bike Lanes. RECOMMENDATION: 1) Give direction to staff on proceeding with a capital improvement bike lanes project. STAFF ANALYSIS: The 2007 Palm Springs General Plan included as Appendix F the Non-Motorized Transportation Plan. Chapter 4 of said plan prioritizes bikeways by class. The State classifies bikeways into 3 classes. Class I is a bike path separate from the street; Class II is a striped bike lane within an existing public street; Class III consists of signs only within a public street which creates a bike route. The lanes were listed in the plan by priority groups 1-3 Attached are the Class II bike lanes (top, second and third priorities). The total estimated cost of all three priorities is $6.3 million. Class II bike lanes cost approximately $120,000lmile. The attached list and map identifies the lanes as listed in the plan. FISCAL IMPACT: Each of the following Sustainability accounts has $50,000 available for Class II bike lanes construction: 138-1270-50000 and 138-1270-58033.
