Ready, City Manager BY: AIRPORT SUMMARY Pursuant to section 7.040.040 (3) of the Municipal Code, the City Manager exercised his authority to approve the emergency repair of one escalator at the Palm Springs International Airport Bono Concourse in the amount of $43,900.00 by Kone Elevator and Escalators. Section 7.040.040 (3) requires that a written report of the circumstances for emergency purchases in excess of $25,000 be provided to the Council at the next regularly scheduled meeting after the emergency procurement is made. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Ratify the emergency repairs in the amount of $43,900.00 to Kone Elevator and Escalators. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. STAFF ANALYSIS Palm Springs International Airport has two out door escalators that provide for the safe and efficient movement of passengers up to and down from the Bono Concourse. Both of the escalators are original equipment installed during the construction of the facility in the late 1990's and require continuous maintenance and repair conducted by a professional service company. The down escalator servicing the Bono concourse began vibrating and maintenance staff immediately contacted the service vendor to evaluate. Upon the professional evaluation and inspection, it was determined that components of the 52 metal steps were failing. It was determined by staff, in consultation with the manufacturer, that the r� ITEM NO. This solution was also the most time efficient, with one day for removal and two days for installation. Delaying repairs would have resulted in a two week closure for the escalator used by all arriving passengers on the Bono Concourse.
