=.FORN,P CITY COUNCIL STAFF REPORT
DATE: APRIL 17, 2013 CONSENT
SUBJECT: PROPOSED RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING TWO (2) HOUR ELECTRIC
VEHICLE ONLY PARKING IN DESIGNATED AREAS.
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: Michele C. Mician, Sustainability Manager
SUMMARY
The City Council will consider a resolution to establish ten (10) two hour electric vehicle
only parking at the sites listed in Exhibit A and shown on the attached map.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt Resolution No. , "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING AND
APPROVING TWO-HOUR ELECTRIC VEHICLE ONLY PARKING AT VARIOUS
CITY OWNED PROPERTIES."
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The City's Office of Sustainability received State awarded funds through the Reconnect
California program to establish electric vehicle infrastructure. As a result the City
recently installed ten electric vehicle charging stations. Staff recommends that two hour
time limited electric vehicle only parking is established at these locations to ensure that
the stations are utilized as the State intended and to provide a greater level of service to
electric vehicle owners. As a result the City will continue to fulfill the goals established in
the 2009 Palm Springs Path to a Sustainable Community and will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions as committed to in the U.S. Mayor's Climate Protection Agreement.
