Ready, City Manager BY: Library.Services SUMMARY At the beginning of each fiscal year, Library Services renews and/or adds to its selection of publicly accessible research electronic databases. This action would approve the purchase of an annual subscription for the majority of the electronic databases used by the Library. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Adopt the Minute Order No. _ approving the purchase of an annual subscription from EBSCO for various electronic research databases for the Library in the amount of $36,950. STAFF ANALYSIS: The Palm Springs Public Library prides itself on providing the largest and most in depth collection of materials of any Library in the Coachella Valley. This includes materials in electronic format available for use through the Library's website. The Library purchases an annual subscription from EBSCO for the following databases: • Book Index with Reviews • Consumer Health Complete • MasterFile Premier (index to 2,000 magazines) • Primary Search (children's magazine index) • Novelist Online (reader's advisory tool) • Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Index ITEM NO.ILL- City Council Staff Report July 19, 2006-- Page 2 Purchase of Electronic Databases FISCAL IMPACT: Finance Director Review: This purchase is fully budgeted in the Council adopted FY 06-07 General Fund budget for Library Services. ro L. APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF AN ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION TO VARIOUS ELECTRONIC DATABASES FROM EBSCO IN THE AMOUNT OF $36,950 I, James Thompson, City Clerk of the City of Palm Springs, hereby certify that this Minute Order approving the purchase of an annual subscription to various electronic databases from EBSCO in the amount of $36,950, was adopted by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, in a meeting thereof held on the 19t" day of July, 2006.
