DATE: -zitln -29t3 3mg, A ?00 LEGISLATIVE
SUBJECT: PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDING CITY FIRE CODE
REQUIREMENTS PERTAINING TO FIRE COMMAND CENTERS
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: Douglas Holland, City Attorney
SUMMARY
The City Council will consider approval of an Ordinance amending the adopted local fire
code regulating fire command centers. The adoption of this Ordinance will have the
effect of reinstating the State Fire Code requirement for installation of fire command
centers in buildings over 75 feet in height.
RECOMMENDATION:
Waive reading of text and introduce for first reading Ordinance No. _
"AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, REPEALING
SUBECTION 21 OF SECTION 8.04.510 OF THE PALM SPRINGS MUNICIPAL
CODE, PERTAINING TO FIRE COMMAND CENTER REQUIREMENTS FOR
BUILDINGS."
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The City's current fire code contains a more restrictive local requirement for the
provision of fire command centers in buildings over 60 feet in height. The proposed
ordinance repeals the restrictive local requirement. The repeal of the local requirement
will result in the reinstatement of the State Fire Code requirement for the provision of
fire command centers in buildings over 75 feet in height for all new development in Palm
Springs.
