City Council Staff Report Sept. 21, 2005 -- Page 2 Purchase Cyrun CAD and RIMS Historically, the Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit (SAR) has maintained their own fleet of vehicles, however it was determined on January 19, 2005 by Council Resolution that the vehicles they owned would be transferred to the City and would become part of the City fleet. The City would then be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the vehicles, and the Fleet Manager would be able to keep an accurate inventory control. To date the SAR has donated 8 vehicles to the fleet. This truck will replace a truck they are currently using, and the replaced truck will be assigned to the Special Response Team. This will eliminate the need for the Police Department to purchase a new truck for the team. FISCAL IMPACT: The City will be receiving a $25,000 truck for free, however there will be ongoing operations and maintenance costs associated with the vehicle. All of the SAR vehicles get very limited use, and thus the recurring costs will not be significant. The Shop estimates the annual cost to be $1000 - $2000 annually.
