Ready, City Manager BY: Department of Aviation SUMMARY Each year the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) receives federal grants under the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The Airport expects to receive a discretionary grant during the month of August 2006. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Approve Minute Order No. , authorizing the City manager to accept federal grant 3-06-0181-40 (AIP 40) for a total amount not to exceed $7,500,000. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. STAFF ANALYSIS: The FAA has indicated that a discretionary grant under AIP 40 in an amount not to exceed $7,500,000 is anticipated to be offered to PSP in the month of August 2006, and the City will be required to accept the grant no later than August 31, 2006. These funds will be used for Airfield Safety Improvements. It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept this federal grant for airport development and improvement projects that are consistent with PSP's Airport Master Plan and Airport Capital Improvement Program (ACIP) Once a grant offer is made, the Airport must be able to react promptly to ensure timely acceptance of the grant. Since the City Council may not have a meeting in August 2006, staff is bringing this minute order forward for adoption in anticipation of receiving this ITEM NO. 2 .G. At its regularly scheduled meeting on July 5, 2006, the Airport Commission recommended City Council authorize the City manager to accept federal grant 3-06-0181-40 (AIP 40) for a total amount not to exceed $7,500,000. FISCAL IMPACT: Finance Director Review: The FAA grant will fund 95% of eligible project costs, the remaining 5% will be funded from the airport's general funds.
