DATE: JULY 26, 2006 CONSENT CALENDAR
SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE
FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION
FROM: David H. Ready, City Manager
BY: Department of Aviation
SUMMARY
Each year the Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) receives federal grants under the
Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The Airport
expects to receive a discretionary grant during the month of August 2006.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Approve Minute Order No. , authorizing the City manager to accept
federal grant 3-06-0181-40 (AIP 40) for a total amount not to exceed
$7,500,000.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The FAA has indicated that a discretionary grant under AIP 40 in an amount not to
exceed $7,500,000 is anticipated to be offered to PSP in the month of August 2006, and
the City will be required to accept the grant no later than August 31, 2006. These funds
will be used for Airfield Safety Improvements.
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to accept this federal
grant for airport development and improvement projects that are consistent with PSP's
Airport Master Plan and Airport Capital Improvement Program (ACIP)
Once a grant offer is made, the Airport must be able to react promptly to ensure timely
acceptance of the grant. Since the City Council may not have a meeting in August 2006,
staff is bringing this minute order forward for adoption in anticipation of receiving this
