AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF 15 NEW REPLACEMENT VEHICLES (6 OF WHICH ARE HYBRIDS OR ALTERNATIVE FUEL VEHICLES) FOR THE PALM SPRINGS POLICE DEPARTMENT (Revised Recommendation) City staff has updated the list replacement cost of the Police Vehicles. Attached is an updated Equipment Replacement List, noting one change. Additionally, a revised budget amendment resolution is attached and the revised recommendation as follows: 1) Approve the purchase of 15 new replacement vehicles for the Palm Springs Police Department in an amount not to exceed $616,000. 2) Adopt Resolution No. "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2013-14 FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT REPLACEMENT VEHICLES." ------------- DAVID H. WHEREAS, Resolution No. 23146 approving the Budget for the fiscal Year 2012- 2013 was adopted on June 6, 2012; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended, and the City Council desires to approve certain amendments to said budget. WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended, and the City Council desires to approve, certain amendments to the budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14. Ready, City Manager Initiated by: Fleet Operations SUMMARY This action would authorize staff to purchase 20 new replacement vehicles (6 of which are hybrids or alternative fuel vehicles), for use by the Palm Springs Police Department in a total amount not to exceed $626,000. RECOMMENDATION: 1) Approve the purchase of 20 new replacement vehicles for the Palm Springs Police Department in an amount not to exceed $626,000. 2) Adopt Resolution No. "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR 2013-14 FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT REPLACEMENT VEHICLES." STAFF ANALYSIS: The City inventory of vehicles and equipment is examined annually in conjunction with the budget process to determine which units meet criteria established by the City Council in Resolution No. 18834 for replacement. In keeping with the City of Palm Springs' established commitment to improving air quality in the Coachella Valley, all fleet replacements are evaluated for their operational suitability to the use of alternative fuels. The gasoline/electric hybrids proposed provide an average of 50% increased mileage, have proven to be reliable as they are all factory vehicles and are the recommended choice to meet the City's alternative fuel vehicle goals. ITEM NO. 0 City Council Staff Report July 03, 2013 - Page 2 Vehicle Replacement The Police Department vehicles recommended to be replaced along with specific vehicle information is attached, at an estimated cost not to exceed $626,000. In September, City Staff will bring forward recommendations for replacement vehicles for all other City Departments. FISCAL IMPACT: Police Department vehicle replacement is not to exceed $626,000. Funds for this purchase will be appropriated from the Motor Vehicle Replacement (MVR) fund balance using the attached Budget Amendment Resolution.
