Beginning that day, all trash will be collected once a week instead of the current practice of twice weekly. Your collection day will be the day that your recyclables are currently collected. The change is part of a new program that emphasizes efficiency, recycling and a reduced carbon footprint. The cornerstone of the new program is the new industry standard "automated" collection vehicle that is equipped with a hydraulic arm to lift and empty new trash carts, which is operated by a single driver. Our advance planning team has determined that your residence is one of about 650 in the City where the roadway is too narrow, overhead wires or trees are too low, or another restrictive condition exists making it unsafe for the automated collection vehicle to collect your trash. We will, therefore, continue to collect your trash and recyclables manually with a 2-person crew and/or a specialty truck and crew. We will continue to collect the same volume of trash, but we will now do it on one day each week instead of two days. For example, if you subscribe to 2 cans per pickup day, we will now collect 4 cans on your one collection day. Your monthly service rate will remain the same as before due to the continued need for a 2- person collection crew and/or the specialty truck needed to service these unique properties. However, the normal annual rate increase will NOT be applied to your bill this July 1st.
