SUBJECT: REPORT OF EMERGENCY PROCUREMENT FOR A BUILDING
DEMOLITION PURSUANT TO PALM SPRINGS MUNICIPAL CODE
SECTION 7.04.040.

SUMMARY
Pursuant to section 7.04.040 (3) of the Municipal Code, the City Manager exercised his
authority to approve the emergency demolition of a dilapidated and burned building
located at 790 Calle Santa Cruz in the amount of $25,342.50 to G & M Construction on
November 6, 2014 to protect the public health and safety. Section 7.04.040 (4) requires
that a written report of the circumstances for emergency purchases in excess of
$25,000 be made to the Council at the next regularly scheduled meeting after the
emergency procurement is made.
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive and File the Report of Emergency Procurement for the demolition of a building
located at 790 Calle Santa Cruz, pursuant to Palm Springs Municipal Code
Section 7.04.040.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The located at 790 Calle Santa Cruz sustained a fire and was damaged beyond repair
requiring demolition. Due to the unsafe nature of the structure, the City Manager
entered into a contract with G & M Construction for asbestos abatement and demolition
of the property. G & M Construction filed the mandatory asbestos report with the
County and completed the asbestos removal and demolition.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Funds for this emergency repair were available from account 001-4161-43260 for
$25,342.50. Full amount will be billed to the property owner for reimbursement and if
not paid to the City, a lien will be placed on the property.
