A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, IN SUPPORT OF THE
COLLEGE OF THE DESERT'S MEASURE "CC" GENERAL
OBLIGATION BOND TO BE PLACED ON THE NOVEMBER
2016 ELECTION BALLOT ADDRESSING THE LONG-
TERM NEEDS OF THE COLLEGE AND THE LOCAL
COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, College of the Desert has been the leading source for higher
education in Eastern Riverside County and for 60 years has strategically planned,
grown and adapted to serve the Coachella Valley; and
WHEREAS, College of the Desert has provided higher education opportunities to
tens of thousands of students and as a result the Coachella Valley has benefited with
better jobs, a better -trained workforce and a stronger local economy; and
WHEREAS, College of the Desert has a long history of fiscal solvency and
dedicated management, faculty and staff; and
WHEREAS, College of the Desert has experienced a 30% rise in enrollments
since 2012 and is now the second fastest growing community college in California; and
WHEREAS, The College of the Desert's existing campuses located throughout
the Coachella Valley have an incredible need for more expansion, repair and
modernization of classrooms, science labs, learning space, technology, and additional
infrastructure to accommodate the community's educational needs now and in the
future; and
WHEREAS, College of the Desert has placed a general obligation bond,
Measure "CC", on the November 2016 ballot to address the long-term needs of the
College and the community in which it serves; and
WHEREAS, Measure "CC" is smart planning that will enable College of the
Desert to:
-Reduce Overcrowding
-Build needed classrooms and labs
-Expand higher education into the fields that are in most demand and offer well -
paying jobs
-Emphasize career paths to nursing and medical jobs, law enforcement,
firefighting, science and engineering fields
-Strengthen programs for preparing returning veterans for well -paying careers;

WHEREAS, Along with these benefits, Measure "CC" has safeguards. No
Measure "CC" money may be spent on salaries and no Measure "CC" money may be
taken to fund state programs. An independent Oversight Committee will insure our local
benefits are delivered as promised.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PALM SPRINGS SUPPORTS THE GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND
MEASURE "CC" FOR COLLEGE OF THE DESERT.
