HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/16/2016 - STAFF REPORTS - 00 From: Sheila Cobrin <scobrin@verizon.net> RECEIVED To: Mayor, Council Members and Residents of Palm Aprings 7 Y OF PALM 5 P R; G'c Sent: Wed, Nov 16, 2016 Subject: DWA Rate increases 2111 NOV 16 PH 12: 12 Good morning, JA.HETSvJ HQHF5C: We ALL received the flyer that Desert Water Agency sent to everyone to whom thsupltARr in their district. IF you read it or looked for the pertinent information you will have noticed they are having a PUBLIC meeting on Thursday, DEC, 15 2016 at the Cielo Vista School cafeteria at 6:00pm. While I know many of you are not here 2417 you still have a voice in these rate hikes. You do have the right to protest these hikes. PROTESTS must be in writing. If DWA doesn't receive protests from more than 50% of its customers, the Board of Directors will have the option of voting on the proposed rate hikes. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT OUTCOME WILL BE. The new rate changes will go into effect on January 1, 2017. Remember, the City will also see an increase unless you decide not to water our parks, airport landscape, medians and the trees that line our streets. Construction rates will rise substantially also. No one comes out unscathed. I am going to attend that meeting and would love to have you join me. If you can't then please write a letter of protest to DWA and email it to me and I will take it to DWA personally: scobri n(a)verizon.net You are required to include your full name, property address and APN (s) or DWA account number(s). If you are here and would rather drop off your letter of protest do so at: DWA 1200 S Gene Autry Trail P.S. or mail to: Desert Water Agency, Attn: Board Secretary P.O. Box 1710 Palm Springs, CA 92263-1710 Please write a letter as soon as possible. If you want to know how to compute your rate hikes look at your last bill. It will give you a number which corresponds to the colored block on your compared usage graph. It also shows that number(consumption) multiplied by$1.57. Take that number and multiply instead by proposed hikes ($1.57, $1.72, $1.89 etc) these are service rates. Take those results, add the new rate (service charges) of corresponding increase and you will see what your new water bill would be according to the new rate proposal. Add out to the final increase of$33.53 in 2020 and you will have your approximate water bill using your present consumption. Do your homework. Sheila Cobrin
