SUBJECT: APPROVE ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR COUNSELING AND CRISIS
INTERVENTION SERVICES WITH THE COUNSELING TEAM
INTERNATIONAL FOR CRITICAL INCIDENTS

SUMMARY:
The City entered into an agreement with The Counseling Team International on October
11, 2016 to provide professional crisis intervention services and aftercare counseling for
Police, Fire, and other employees of the city for critical incident care. This agreement
continues, however the initial approved amount of $25,000 has been exhausted and an
additional amount of $30,000 is requested to continue this critical service.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Approve an additional amount of $30,000 to provide ongoing professional crisis
intervention services and aftercare counseling with The Counseling Team
International.
2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.
STAFF ANALYSIS:
The agreement with The Counseling Team International provides professional crisis
intervention services and aftercare counseling for employees for critical incident
intervention.
Since entering this agreement on October 11, 2016 this valuable service continues to
be utilized by employees in response to aftercare counseling services due to recent
critical incidents. The additional amount of $30,000 is required to continue to offer this
service to City Employees. ITEM NO. IA

FISCAL IMPACT
While critical incidents and ongoing counseling services are not predictable, $30,000 is
requested to cover current ongoing and estimated cost for the remainder of the
2016/2017 FY. Funds are available in the Risk Management fund 540-5903-43880.
