Subject: Comments in Support of Palm Springs City Council Request for PS Health Run In-Kind Support
Hi James/Mayor Moon/Councilman Kors,
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request for in-kind City of Palm Springs
support for the PS Health Run & Fitness Expo. Below are statements in support of our
request that we have before the PS City Council being voted on this Wednesday, Jan. 25.
1 will be there to read them in public comments.
Desert Healthcare District/Foundation
The funds raised through the Palm Springs Health Run and Expo, along with the funds
matched by the Desert Healthcare District go directly to the Ready, Set, Swim program.
The Ready, Set, Swim program is a free, swimming and nutrition education program
available to all 3rd graders in the PSUSD. The program provides transportation,
swimsuits, towels, program t-shirts and health snacks to all participants. In the 2015/2016
school year, a total of 754, 3rd grade students from the PSUSD participated in the
program.
Please let me know, if you need additional details.

Palm Springs Unified School District Foundation
Thank you to Jeff Hocker and Carolyn Caldwell at Desert Regional
Medical Center for producing this year's PS Health and Fitness Fun
Run Walk. Palm Springs Unified has enjoyed the benefits that the
event has brought our students and will again bring hundreds of
students to run the 1 mile. Our students enjoy the exhibits,
activities and the excitement that the 1 mile youth fun run brings.
You might not know that it is a federal requirement that all 5th graders be able to run one
mile by the end of the school year. By participating in this event our students get to
exercise their bodies and minds, run the mile, and meet students from other PSUSD
elementary schools within our five city radius. It's an event that they look forward to each
year. We're thrilled that an event of this kind is continuing and we appreciate your hard
work and dedication.
See you on the 28th!
