AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING SECTION 2.18.010, AND
SECTION 2.28.020(b) OF THE PALM SPRINGS
MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO BOARDS AND
COMMISSIONS.
City Attorney Summary
This Ordinance expands the Parks and Recreation Commission from nine
to eleven members, provides the Palm Springs Unified School District
Superintendent may nominate one member for appointment by the City
Council, and amends the quorum requirement for the Sustainability
Commission.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA,
ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. Section 2.18.010 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code is amended
to read as follows:
(a) There is created a parks and recreation commission which shall consist of
eleven members, ten members shall be appointed in the manner and for the terms
prescribed in Section 2.04.060 and 2.06.010 of this Code.
(b) One member shall be appointed by the Palm Springs City Council from a
candidate nominated by the Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent of
Schools. Such nominee shall not be a student, elected official, or teacher of the district,
and shall not be required to be a resident and registered voter of the city.
SECTION 2. Subsection (b) of Section 2.28.020 of the Palm Springs Municipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
(b) A vacancy in the commission shall not impair the right of the remaining
members to exercise the powers of the commission pursuant to this chapter. A majority
of the existing appointed members of the commission shall constitute a quorum, and
any ruling, decision or other action of the commission may be taken by a majority of
those members present, provided a quorum is present.
SECTION 3. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall certify to the passage
and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same, or the summary thereof, to be
published and posted pursuant to the provisions of law, and this Ordinance shall take
effect 30 days after adoption.
