It is Item 1."I"on the consent calendar. In the interest of full disclosure, I applied and was interviewed for the seat on the Airport Commission. I am a homeowner who lives two blocks from the airport and an individual with 33 years of airline industry employment. I have served six years as a Palm Springs City Commissioner, three years as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner that oversaw the construction of the Palm Springs Skate Park and three years as a Public Arts Commissioner which oversaw one of the largest expansions of city art in its history. Add to that 7 years on the Board of the Palm Springs Art Museum Artist Council where I also held the position of president,4 years on the Arts Institute of Palm Springs High School where I also served as president and two years as secretary of the Simmor Neighborhood Organization. But the City would rather have Aftab Dada,manager of the Hilton Hotel and an embarrassing City Council sycophant. It is worth noting that Dada is also the head of PS Resorts,an organization of downtown hotel managers/owners that receives substantial funding from the City each year from kickbacks they get from the TOT revenues. This is how you maintain control of every aspect of life in a city: ignore qualifications for appointed positions,just make sure all the appointed decision-makers are beholden to City Hall. Dada has been an important leader in developing close ties between the hospitality community(that would benefit from increased airport traffic)and city officials in Palm Springs. However you would never known that if you pulled up Mr. Dada's application for the seat on the Airport Commission at the City Clerks'office. Why? Because it is completely blank other than the line where it asks for a local reference;there you will find the name"Harold Matzner." Background and Work Experience: blank. Knowledge of the functions of the commission: also left blank. Regulations and procedures of the commission: blank. Specific attitudes,skills and expertise:blank. Also if you were to pull up his application for the Measure 7 Commission where until recently he has served and is vacating that position to take this one you won't find much there either. Unlike Mr.Dada's civic resume,mine is not self-serving. My contributions to the city have been to enrich the quality of life for Palm Springs residence and to protect the quality of life for our residence.This is not to say Dada's works have gone unnoticed. "The one individual that has been at the head of almost everything that we do—whether it's the expansion of the convention center and Palm Springs Resorts—Aftab has always been therefor me>for the city council,for prior mayors,"said Steven Pougnet. So one needs to ask what is Mr. Dada interest in the Airport Commission? The answer is pretty apparent,he will always be for, and never against,any kind of expansion(traffic or otherwise)regardless of how it affects the quality of life of Palm Springs residents and he will tow the line as asked by City Hall. Like Mr. Pougnet noted above,he will always be there for City Council and the mayors. But will he be there for the residents? I made no secret in my interview with Mayor Moon and Councilman Chris Mills(who I assume had Mr. Dada's application as they were referencing mine during our meeting)that one of my interests in the Airport Commission is to help find balance between the growth of the airport and how it would affect the citizenry of Palm Springs specifically when dealing with noise. Another interesting note is that the only record of residence for Mr. Dada is the Hilton Hotel.Not exactly putting down roots for someone who has lived in the city for 28 years. There is one other question that was filled out on Mr. Dada's application, the number of times he has attended Airport Commission meetings,answer: none! 12-13- zol7 Acid; It should also be noted that Mr. Dada appears to have jumped from his position as a Measure J Oversight Commissioner(where his commitment was until June of 2020)onto the airport commission. Now that position is vacant so that he can fill this one. This is about as "Trumpian" as it gets. It appears that you don't need to fill out an application and only need a reference of one prominent businessperson in Palm Springs to fill a position of Commissioner. Not exactly the representation one hopes for in their public commissioners. The position of a City Commissioner as found on the Palm Springs Website are as follows: The Commissions and Boards have been established to: 1 Advise the City Council on matters within their area of interest; 2 Enable more attention to be given to specific issues and problems; 3 Act as a channel of communication between City government and the public; 4 Provide a greater opportunity for citizen participation in the affairs of City government, and, 5 Make decisions on matters where the City Council has granted them authority to act.
