John was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank achievable through the Boy_ Scouts of America. He earned his Associates Degree from College of the Desert and obtained his Bachelor's Degree In 2004 from Southern Illinois University. John volunteered as a Reserve Police Officer for Palm Springs beginning In 1976. He became a fu!! time employee for Palm Springs Police Department on April 26, 1978 when he was hired as a Dispatcher. He worked as a Dispatcher and continued serving as a Reserve Police Officer before promoting to Police Officer on August 5, 1979. As a Police Officer John worked several assignments including patrol operations, K-9 Handler, Field Tralning Officer, Bike Officer, and served as a detective fa the Crimes Against Persons Unit in the Detective Bureau. He also served on the SWAT Team for many years and later served as one of the Hostage Negotiators. In ApW 1999, he promoted to Police Sergeant. During his time as a Sergeant he supervised in Patrol Operations and details such as the Field Training Officer program, Airport laterdictlou detail, and numerous other special projects. John promoted to Lieutenant on January 1, 2006, and was one of three Lieutenants running the Patrol Operations Division. He was tasked with the scheduling and shift selection for patrol officers, the coordination of the Neighborhood Policing Officers program, vehicle assignments, and Was the supervisor is charge of the Abport, Field Trafaiag Ofilcers, and Use of Force experts. Throughout his career, Lieutenant Booth received numerous letters of praise from the public and commendations from the Department and was featured In an episode of "48 Hours"for hls lavolvement fir solving homicides, rapes, and assault and battery cases by a serial Affler who was captured in Chicago.
