HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/5/2011 - STAFF REPORTS - 00 (3) of City of Palm Springs CALIFORNIA RICKE WARSTLER began his career with the Palm Springs Fire Department as a firefighter on May 12, 1981 and rose through the ranks to become Deputy Fire Marshal in 2006. During his entire 30 years of service he has had the well-being and safety of the City of Palm Springs and our community foremost in his mind, giving many tireless hours to the Department's SCBA (Scott Breathing Apparatus) Program. He used his mechanical and welding shills to fabricate hardware for the fire trucks, saving the City thousands of dollars in repair costs. Ricke gave hundreds of selfless hours to the Firemen's Association for their annual Fish Fry, as well as their annual Easter Egg Hunt, dressed as the Easter Bunny. Ricke served seven years as a firefighter, providing our City and Community emergency medical services, fire prevention and fire suppression activities and 18 years as a fire apparatus operator maintaining fire department emergency vehicles in a state of readiness, safely driving and operating apparatus during emergency incidents. Ricke served four years as a Fire Prevention Captain performing the duties of a Deputy Fire Marshal delivering public education presentations to elementary school children, teaching them about Stop Drop and Roll, Don't Hide in a Fire - Go Outside, Have an Escape Plan and Practice It, Check Your Smoke Detector and Don't Play with Matches or Lighters. He has been instrumental in investigating and determining the cause of accidental and arson fires, working with law enforcement to arrest and apprehend criminals who have illegally started fires in the City of Palm Springs. On behalf of the City of Palm Springs and the City Council, I am honored to present this Certificate of Appreciation to RICKS WARSTLER and express our gratitude for his extraordinary public service in his roles as firefighter, apparatus operator, and Deputy Fire Marshal during his more than 30 years working for the City. We wish him many happy days in his well-deserved retirement. Presented this 5`h day of January 2011.
