CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, CRAIG EWING's 29 year career in City Planning has included the Cities
of Fillmore, San Buenaventura, La Canada Flintridge, Malibu, Lafayette and Belmont before
finally joining us here in Palm Springs; and
WHEREAS, Craig became Director of Planning Services for the City of Palm Springs
in 2005 where his easy-going style brought consistency and stability to the staffing and
services provided by the Planning Department; and
WHEREAS Craig estimates he has attended well over seven hundred City Council
meetings, as well as countless Historic Preservation Board Meetings, Planning Commission
meetings, and Architectural Advisory Committee meetings over the course of his career; and
WHEREAS, while Planning Director for Palm Springs, Craig discovered his latent
passion and love of Mid-Century Modern Architecture, - even though he is too shy to admit it;
and
WHEREAS, when not attending late night City Council meetings, Craig has been
known to curl up on the sofa with his cats, Wendy and "the Lost Boys" - "Jimmy the Snitch"
and "Carl Longtail" to enjoy the Turner Classic Movie channel; and
WHEREAS, recently his love of old movies, history and liaison with the Historic
Preservation Board have converged to make him the in-house expert on Charlie Farrell and
the Racquet Club and all the "Elvis houses'; and
WHEREAS, in his spare time, Craig loves opportunities to read aloud to third-graders
and to instill in them a passion for reading and story-telling; and
WHEREAS, Craig has served the community at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, in
countless capacities including as Senior Warden, and has "whetted his appetite" and curiosity
in technology with his service on the board of the Desert Water Agency; and
WHEREAS, Craig will be missed dearly by his colleagues, staff, and friends here at
City Hall.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stephen P. Pougnet, Mayor of the City of Palm Springs, do
hereby take pride in honoring CRAIG EWING for his many excellent accomplishments and
extraordinary public service to our community for the past eight years. I further wish CRAIG
many hap y y in is well-deserved retirement, and by the power vested in me, do hereby
