HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/5/2011 - STAFF REPORTS - 00 (2)Whereas, in 1988 the City Council of the City of Palm Springs established a Public Arts Ordinance to develop and maintain a visual arts program for residents and visitors of Palm Springs; and Whereas, in addition to enhancing the Palm Springs environment, the Public Arts Program, provides social involvement, and assists in education, urban development and community well-being; and Whereas, the month of October has been recognized as National Arts and Humanities Month by thousands of arts and cultural organizations, communities, and states across the country, as well as by the White House and Congress for more than two decades; and Whereas, the arts and humanities embody much of the accumulated wisdom, intellect, and imagination of humankind, along with strengthening our economy and creating jobs. The art industry enriches the lives of all Americans. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Stephen P. Pougnet, Mayor of the City of Palm Springs California, along with the City Council and the Public Arts Commission, call upon all our citizens to celebrate and promote the arts and culture in our nation and community, and do hereby declare the Month of October 2011 to be: National Arts and Humanities Month
