Ready, City Manager BY: Office of the City Clerk SUMMARY This is a request for the City Council to provide direction regarding the City Council meeting schedule and determine which meetings, if any, will be cancelled and/or rescheduled. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt a Resolution entitled "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING OF CERTAIN CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS AND ESTABLISHING THE RESCHEDULED MEETINGS AS REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL." BACKGROUND: The Palm Springs City Charter authorizes the City Council to adopt a resolution or ordinance to establish the dates and times for its regular meetings. Pursuant to Section 2.04.010 of the Municipal Code, the City Council's regular meetings are the first and third Wednesdays of each month. The City Council routinely cancels its meetings in the month of August and the following dates have been identified as conflicting holidays or religious observances: U.S. Independence Day (July 4, 2018) It is recommended that the City Council reschedule its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, to occur on Wednesday, July 11,2018. Yom Kippur(September 18-19, 2018) It is recommended that the City Council reschedule its regular meeting of Wednesday, September 19, 2018, to occur on Thursday, September 20, 2018. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING OF CERTAIN CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS AND ESTABLISHING THE RESCHEDULED MEETINGS AS REGULAR MEETINGS OF THE CITY COUNCIL WHEREAS, Section 307 of the Palm Springs City Charter requires that regular meetings of the City Council be established by ordinance or resolution; and WHEREAS, Section 2.04.010 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code establishes the first and third Wednesday of each month for regular meetings; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to cancel and reschedule certain regular meetings. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. The regular City Council meeting scheduled for July 4, 2018, is hereby cancelled and rescheduled to July 11, 2018, to be conducted as a regular meeting of the City Council. SECTION 2. The regular City Council meetings scheduled for August 1 and August 15, 2018, are hereby cancelled. SECTION 2. The regular City Council meeting scheduled for September 19, 2018, is hereby cancelled and rescheduled to September 20, 2018, to be conducted as a regular meeting of the City Council. SECTION 3. The regular City Council meetings scheduled for January 2 and January 16, 2019, are hereby cancelled and rescheduled to January 9 and January 23, 2019, to be conducted as a regular meetings of the City Council. SECTION 4.
