HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/14/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (4) DATE: November 14, 2001 TO: City Council FROM: City Manager AMENDMENT# 3 - ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve Amendment #3 to the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan, adopted by resolution 19885, to establish an allowance for overfill of two Police Officer positions and one Community Services Officer position. SUMMARY: This requested action would result in the third Amendment to the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan establishing an allowance for overfill of two Police Officer positions and one Community Services Officer position. BACKGROUND: The Police Department currently has two police officers off work on long-term workers' compensation injury leave. As soon as these officers reach permanent and stationary conditions, they will be retired and will create two vacancies in the Department. Additionally, as a result of our Nation's war effort, two officers have been called for military duty and will be gone for one year. The Department also has one community services officer off work on long-term worker's compensation injury leave, and one on long-term medical leave that is expected to be out for ten months. Funds are available through salary savings as a result of staffing vacancies since the beginning of FY 2001-02. It is requested that City Council authorize the temporary over hire of two police officer positions and one community services officer position to assist in the efficiency of recruitment, training and reduction of overtime. READY City Manager RESOLUTION NO, 20208 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AMENDMENT #3 TO THE ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002, ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION 20086. WHEREAS an Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan was adopted effective June 20, 2001, for the 2001-2002 Fiscal Year by Resolution No. 20086; and WHEREAS The City Council desires to amend said Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan for fiscal year 2001-2002. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, that the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan for positions in the City Service for fiscal year 2001-2002 is hereby amended as follows: Section 1. Overfill Positions Police Officer — temporary overfill of two positions in Patrol 001-3010. Community Services Officer — temporary overfill of one position in Patrol 001- 3010. Section 2. All provisions of this Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
