training equipment for the canines. Some of the training equipment has been replaced
over the years but the deterioration over time of the field and the equipment became
irreparable.
George and Dianne Marantz approached the Police Department wishing to make a
donation in memory of their son, Michael. In his youth, Michael was a Police Explorer
with our Police Department. The idea of a lasting memorial to their son appealed to
them and they asked if they could renovate, reconstruct and modernize the existing
deteriorating canine field. They also requested that the field be named after their son,
Michael.
A breakdown of the costs associated with this renovation include $2,000 for removing
the old shrubs, grass, equipment and fencing, $2,500 for regrading and exporting the
excess materials; $8,500 for new fencing and painted wrought iron gates surrounding
the field and police department access; $8,250 for bleachers, pad, walkway, and
awning; $1,500 for drinking fountain with electrical and plumbing; $5,250 for exercise
and climbing apparatus; and $7,000 for landscaping including sprinkler system.
