C-0�!F'ORaXP City Council Staff Report DATE: July 25, 2007 CONTINUED BUSINESS SUBJECT: Sponsorship of Palm Springs Walk of Stars Classic Film Festival "Starfair' FROM: David H. Assistant City Manager—Administrative Services SUMMARY During the budget process, the City Council received a request from The Palm Springs Walk of Stars to sponsor a classic film festival scheduled for December 7-9, 2007 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Prior to rendering a decision, the City Council had requested that The Palm Springs Walk of Stars provide a budget for the proposed event. Staff has received the requested information and is providing it to the Council for further consideration. RECOMMENDATION: 1. Approve Minute Order No. authorizing the City Attorney to prepare an Event Sponsorship Agreement with the Palm Springs Walk of Stars in an amount not-to- exceed $25,000 to be a Platinum Sponsor of the Palm Springs Classic Film Festival "Starfair" at the Palm Springs Convention Center December 7-9, 2007. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute all documents necessary to effectuate this action. STAFF ANALYSIS: The Palm Springs Walk of Stars is planning a classic film festival, known as "Starfair', as part of their T� Annual Celebration of the Stars, which is scheduled for December 7-9, 2007, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Approximately 150 stars have been invited to participate in the film festival, which will screen numerous classic films from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. To help underwrite this film festival, The Palm Springs Walk of Stars has proposed that the City be a Platinum Sponsor of the event. In consideration of the City's sponsorship, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars will offer a special screening for residents of the classic film Palm Springs Weekend on Friday, December 7th. In addition, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars will list the City in all advertising and promotional materials related to the event. This request was presented to the City Council during the budget process. Prior to rendering a decision, the City Council had requested that The Palm Springs Walk of Stars provide a budget for the proposed event. The City has received correspondence from Robert Alexander, President of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, outlining the event and the projected number of ITEM NO. In addition, the Palm Springs Walk of Stars has provided a breakdown of their budget for the event. A copy of the correspondence and budget is attached for your review. FISCAL IMPACT: The Palm Springs Walk of Stars is requesting a $25,000 cash sponsorship to be a Platinum Sponsor of their Classic Film Festival.
