SUBJECT: October 9, 2001 Band Concert / Patriotic Celebration
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve an added starter to consider and evaluate an issue that has
arisen since the posting of the October 3agenda. That issue is a request from the Mayor
for up to $2,500 in City funding to sponsor patriotic fireworks and/or candlelight display in
connection with the October 9 "Fall Concerts in the Park" event.
BACKGROUND:
The City's Tuesday night"Fall Concerts in the Park" series has a band concert by the 3rd
Marine Aircraft Wing Band from Miramar Air Station scheduled for October 9, 2001 at
Sunrise Park.
Since this concert is being presented by a Military band, the Mayor has suggested that a
patriotic celebration be added to this event with fireworks and/or a candlelight display. The
estimated cost of this addition to the concert is $2,500.
Should the City Council approve this request,funds are available in account no. 001-1220-
42691 (Unallocated Council Priorities).
Attached is a Minute Order approving this request, if desired.

I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Minute Order approving the expenditure of City funds in an
amount not to exceed $2,500 for a patriotic fireworks and/or candlelight display in
connection with the October 9, 2001 "Fall Concerts in the Park" final event presented by
the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band was adopted by the City Council of the City of Palm
Springs, California, in a meeting thereof held on the 3rd day of October 2001.
