RECOMMENDATION That the City Council adopt the attached resolution changing the name of Spoon Road to Boulder Road. SUMMARY: The City has received a request to change the name of Spoon Road to Boulder Road. In accordance with Section 14.08 of the Municipal Code,the City Council is authorized to change a street name. The Planning Commission conducts a public hearing and makes a recommendation on requests to change street names. The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing during its meeting August 22, 2001 and voted to recommend that the street name be changed as requested. BACKGROUND: Staff has received a street name change application from residents of Spoon Road to rename the street Boulder Road. The land directly abutting Spoon Road is owned by Sand Castles Home Owners Association. At its meeting of May 18, 2001, the Board of Directors of the Sand Castles Home Owners Association voted to approve of changing the street name from Spoon Road to Boulder Road. There are four condominiums addressed on Spoon Road. Three of the home owners have signed letters supporting changing the name of the street from Spoon Road to Boulder Road. In accordance with Section 14.08 of the City's Municipal Code,a proposed change of street name may be initiated byfiling with the Planning Commission an application in the form prescribed by the director of planning and building and signed by the owners of at least sixty percent of the lineal frontage abutting the street to be affected. The Municipal Code requires that the Commission set a hearing date by adopting a resolution. At its meeting of July 11, 2001, the Planning Commission adopted a Resolution of Intention scheduling a public hearing for the street name change. The public hearing was conducted on August 22, 2001. At the conclusion of the public hearing, the Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend that the.street name be changed. Director gf,)Planning and Building City Manager ATTACHMENTS 1. WHEREAS, the Municipal Code sets forth procedures for considering street name changes; and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has considered a request by residents along the subject street to change Spoon Road to Boulder Road; and WHEREAS, on July 11, 2001 the Planning Commission adopted a Resolution of Intention to hold a public hearing for said street name change application; and WHEREAS,on August 22,2001,a public hearing on said street name change application was held by the Planning Commission in accordance with applicable law; and WHEREAS, at the conclusion of its public hearing on August 22, 2001 the Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the street name change; and WHEREAS, THE City Council is in agreement with the Planning Commission.
