Home My WebLink About9/19/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (22) DATE: September 19, 2001 TO: City Council FROM: City Manager AMENDMENT #1 —ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve Amendment #1 to the Allocated Position and Compensation Plan, adopted by Resolution 20086 to establish an allowance for overfill of one Fire Fighter position. BACKGROUND: The City Council, by Resolution 19885, on April 4, 2001, authorized the City Manager to temporarily over hire two additional firefighters to meet the needs of the City within the adopted 2000-01 budget. One temporary over hire was completed within this budget year. The Fire Department currently has no Fire Fighter vacancies. However, several engineers have been off work on long-term works' compensation injury leave, As soon as these firefighters reach a permanent and stationary condition, they will be retired which will create vacancies in the Department. It is hereby requested that City Council temporarily authorize the City Manager to over hire one Fire Fighter position to assist in the reduction of overtime. OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AMENDMENT #1 TO THE ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001-2002, ADOPTED BY RESOLUTION 20086. WHEREAS an Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan was adopted effective June 20, 2001, for the 2001-2002 Fiscal Year by Resolution No. 20086; and WHEREAS The City Council desires to amend said Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan for fiscal year 2001-2002. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, that the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan for positions in the City Service for fiscal year 2001-2002 is hereby amended as follows: Section 1. Overfill Position Fire Fighter — temporary overfill of one Fire Fighter position. Section 2. All provisions of this Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.
