Ready, City Manager BY: Library SUMMARY The Library's Technology Plan recommends replacement of public computers every four years. Public computers have a short life span due to the hard usage by the public- RECOMMENDATION- 1 Adopt Minute Order No. approving the purchase of sixteen (16) replacement public computers for the Library from Dell Corporation in the amount of$27,420.99. STAFF ANALYSIS: The Library provides 30 computers for the public for word processing, spreadsheets and access to the Internet. The use they receive is constant and extremely heavy. The machines wear out quickly. The Library has written a Technology Plan that delineates replacement schedules for all our hardware and software. All 30 of our public computers are due to be replaced during the 2007 calendar year. These 16 computers are the most in need of replacement. This equipment purchase has been approved by the City's IT department. Section 7.09.010 of the Municipal Code provides that the City Council may authorize the acquisition of supplies, equipment or services through a joint powers or other cooperative purchasing program with a public entity or association of public agencies. Pursuant to the requirements of Section 7.09.010, the Procurement Manager has determined that utilization of the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA) master contract #61140 with Dell Corporation to acquire the new computer equipment is acceptable and will adequately protect the public interest in that the total cost of the equipment is likely to be equal to or less than what could be obtained through an independent City competitive process.
