Home My WebLink About9/5/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (2) DATE: September 5, 2001 TO: City Council FROM: Director of Public Works/City Engineer and Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities VICTORIA PARK, DEMUTH PARKAND BARISTO PARK PLAYGROUND RENOVATIONS RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council award contract to Conference Communication Group, Inc., dba Micon Construction, in the amount of $151,633 for Bid Schedules A, B and C, for the Victoria Park, Demuth Park and Baristo Park Playground Renovations, City Project 00-15. SUMMARY: Award of this contract will provide for the installation of playground equipment, rubberized playground surfacing, and associated improvements at Victoria Park, Demuth Park and Baristo Park. BACKGROUND: In fiscal year 1998-1999, the City Council realized the need for playground equipment replacement at several locations and appropriated funds to begin the systematic replacement of play structures in parks throughout the City. Of top priority was replacement of equipment that was least compliant with playground safety standards. Subsequently, as a result of recommendations from a Parks and Recreation Commission subcommittee, replacement of playground equipment at Victoria Park was listed as a top priority for projects to be funded through "Utility Users Tax - Measure Y"funds. Accordingly, the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department coordinated procurement of new playground equipment. The City Council authorized purchase of the playground equipment from Miracle Playground Sales at its September 6, 2000, meeting. Additionally,on May26,2000,the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Departmentwas successful in obtaining a $25,000 Local Public Agency Playground and Track Surfacing Grant(TR14-99-3169)from the California Integrated Waste Management Board(CIWMB)for partial funding of rubberized playground surfacing. Installation of similar rubberized playground surfacing and new playground equipment was successfully completed at Ruth Hardy Park and Sunrise Park as part of City Project 97-34 in November 1999. The plans and specifications for this project were prepared by the City's consultant, Anthony Mendoza of V2C Group, Inc., for a combined project that will install the City purchased playground equipment from Miracle, rubberized playground surfacing and associated improvements. The project consists of three Bid Schedules: Bid Schedule A includes improvements at Victoria Park, Bid Schedule B includes improvements at Demuth Park, and Bid Schedule C includes improvements at Baristo Park. The low bidder is Conference Communication Group, Inc., dba Micon Construction from Placentia, CA. The company is a corporation and its officers are Gene F. Holle, President, and Don Napolitano, Vice-President/Secretary/Treasurer. This project is funded through General Funds made available through Measure Y proceeds and the CIWMB grant.
