City Council Staff Report
DATE: MARCH 7, 2007 CONSENT AGENDA
SUBJECT: AMENDMENT #5 TO ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION
PLAN
FROM: DAVID H. READY, CITY MANAGER
BY: GARY JEANDRON, CHIEF OF POLICE
SUMMARY
Requesting City Council approval of Amendment #5 to the Allocated Positions and
Compensation Plan approving the over hire of one (1) Police Services Officer.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. Adopt Resolution No. , "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING AMENDMENT NO.
5 TO THE ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN ADOPTED
BY RESOLUTION NO. 21612"
STAFF ANALYSIS:
Our Police Services Officer positions are filled however due to long term illnesses within
that classification we request an over hire to avoid a backlog of cases, data entry, and
reports.
Should the employee on long term leave unexpectedly return, the over hire position will
be absorbed into a vacant position through attrition or the Department will lay off an
employee.
