HomeMy WebLinkAbout8/1/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (27) DATE: August 1, 2001 TO: City Council FROM: Director, Department of Parks, Recreation and Facilities REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF RENTAL FEES FOR PALM SPRINGS AIDS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council consider approving the waiver of rental fees for City facilities in an amount not to exceed$770 for the Palm Springs AIDS Assistance Program's two upcoming fund-raising events. SUMMARY: The AIDS Assistance Program has asked the City to waive rental fees,which total $770, for the use of the Pavilion for two fund-raising events. BACKGROUND: Palm Springs AIDS Assistance Program is a nonprofit organization that provides a food voucher program. It currently serves 425low-income men and women living with HIV/AIDS and their dependent children. About 54% of its client base lives in Palm Springs and the city is certainly the heart of the organization and its 10-year history of serving the community. The first event is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, at the Pavilion and is an evening of entertainment, roasting and dancing. It will also honor Dick Haskamp, a long-time community member, activist, business owner, and Vice President of the AIDS Assistance Program. The second event is the "Awards Dinner" for the annual Palm Springs Winter Classic Softball Tournament, which is scheduled for Sunday, January 20, 2002. This will be the second year that AIDS Assistance has used the Pavilion for this event. This is the first time the AIDS Assistance Program has asked the City to waive rental fees, which would total$770, for use of the Pavilion for these events.
