REQUEST FOR WAIVER OF RENTAL FEES FOR PALM SPRINGS AIDS ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council consider approving the waiver of rental fees for City facilities
in an amount not to exceed$770 for the Palm Springs AIDS Assistance Program's
two upcoming fund-raising events.
SUMMARY:
The AIDS Assistance Program has asked the City to waive rental fees, which total
$770, for the use of the Pavilion for two fund-raising events.
BACKGROUND:
Palm Springs AIDS Assistance Program is a nonprofit organization that provides
a food voucher program. It currently serves 425low-income men and women living
with HIV/AIDS and their dependent children. About 54% of its client base lives in
Palm Springs and the city is certainly the heart of the organization and its 10-year
history of serving the community.
The first event is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, at the Pavilion and is an
evening of entertainment, roasting and dancing. It will also honor Dick Haskamp,
a long-time community member, activist, business owner, and Vice President of
the AIDS Assistance Program.
The second event is the "Awards Dinner" for the annual Palm Springs Winter
Classic Softball Tournament, which is scheduled for Sunday, January 20, 2002.
This will be the second year that AIDS Assistance has used the Pavilion for this
event.
This is the first time the AIDS Assistance Program has asked the City to waive
rental fees, which would total$770, for use of the Pavilion for these events. Last
year, all rental fees were paid by that organization.
