TOUR de PALM SPRINGS PARKING ASSISTANCE
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council waive the facility rental fee of $500.00 per day for rental of de-
commissioned Taxiway A for charitable event parking.
SUMMARY:
Tour de Palm Springs bicycling event has proved so successful that parking is no longer
adequate at the Palm Springs High School starting line. Sufficient land is available on
airport property and because of the close proximity to the start line is a viable solution to
the parking constraints near the start line.
BACKGROUND:
Tour de Palm Springs is an annual cycling event that is expecting to attract 5,000
participants on February 2, 2002. This charity event has grown over the years to a degree
that parking space in no longer adequate at the start and finish line located at Palm Springs
High School. The Airport has sufficient parking space available due to a decommissioned
taxiway (Old Taxiway A) being unused on the requested date. This location has also
served as parking and static display location during Veterans Day festivities and
accommodated overflow parking during last year's Tour de Palm Springs.
Rental of Taxiway A is normally administered through a facility rental agreement at a rate
of$500.00 per day. Tour de Palm Springs officials have requested this fee be waived as
it was last year. This is a great opportunity for the Airport to assist with a high profile
community event that will create positive exposure for the Airport. Additional promotion for
the Airport that has been arranged includes a link to the Airport web site from the Tour de
Palm Springs internet site and placing the Airport logo on all participant shirts. This
recommendation is unanimously supported by the Airport Commission

I HEREBY CERTIFY that this Minute Order, approving waiving the facility rental
fee of$500 for use of decommissioned Taxiway "A"for the Tour de Palm Springs
charitable event on February 2, 2002, was adopted by the City Council of the City
of Palm Springs, California, in a meeting thereof held on the 1st day of August,
2001.
