HomeMy WebLinkAbout8/1/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (11) Date: August 1, 2001 To: City Council From: Senior PC/Network Administrator via Director of Information Technology PURCHASE OF COMPUTERS FOR REPLACEMENT OF OUTDATED COMPUTERS RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approves purchase of two computer workstations for Lee Husfeldt and Mike Kemp from Dell, of Round Rock, Texas, at a cost of$2,805.80. SUMMARY: These computers are needed to replace two outdated Nutrend computers that constantly freeze and run out of memory with the city's current software packages. BACKGROUND: The City's Information Technology Department administers support of the City's computer systems. There are no spare computers for the replacement of old computers. In order for Lee Husfeldt and Mike Kemp to perform their job duties, two new computers are needed. Staff recommends the purchase of two computers from Dell, via the Western States Contracting Alliance (WSCA) #92-00151 contract. The Director of Procurement and Contracting, pursuant to the requirements of Section 3.12.270.6 of the Municipal Code, finds that the competitive process conducted by the WSCA is adequate to protect the public interest, and the total cost of the materials and training is likely to be less than could be obtained through an independent City competitive process. The State of California recently joined the WSCA making it possible for local agencies within California to participate in pricing discounts obtained through the combined purchases of multiple participating states. Funds have been budgeted for this purpose, and are available using account 001-1120- 43010 Information Technology Special Parts and Repairs. APP OVED: Rick Mozzillo J es W.
