HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/20/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (40) Date: June 20, 2001 To: City Council From: Director of Planning and Building FILING OF NUISANCE ABATEMENT PROCEEDING AND ACCOUNTING REPORTS FOR 20 PUBLIC NUISANCES RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council receive and file the proceedings and accounting reports for the abatement of 20 public nuisances located throughout the city. SUMMARY: By adopting this report the City Council will authorize the setting of a public hearing. At The public hearing the City Council will provide an opportunity for property owners to be heard. This report is a required step in the adoption process to allow for a special assessment to be placed on the individual property tax rolls for monies owed to the City. BACKGROUND: In the course of normal activities the Community Preservation Staff posted priority cases as public nuisances following non-compliance by owners. After time limitations lapsed, abatement procedures were completed. Attached to this report are the proceedings and accounting reports for 20 of these public nuisances that have been abated but forwhich the property owners have not paid the billing. The total amount outstanding is $88,592.22. Section 11.72.240 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code requires this report of proceedings and accounting to be filed with the City Council. Following the filing of the report, the City Clerk will set up a hearing at a regularly scheduled City Council meeting to establish special assessment liens on the billings yet unpaid.
