HomeMy WebLinkAbout6/6/2001 - STAFF REPORTS (22) DATE: June 6, 2001 TO: City Council FROM: City Manager AMENDMENT #5 —ALLOCATED POSITIONS AND COMPENSATION PLAN RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that City Council approve Amendment #5 to the Allocated Positions and Compensation Plan, adopted by Resolution 19885, to establish an allowance for overfill of one Police Officer position. SUMMARY: This requested action would result in the fifth amendment to the Allocated Position and Compensation plan establishing an allowance for overfill of one Police Officer position. BACKGROUND: The Police Department currently has no police officer vacancies. However, one police officer has been off work on a long-term workers' compensation injury leave. As soon as this officer reaches a permanent and stationary condition, he will be retired which will create a vacancy in the Department. The Police Department has had an on-going hiring campaign for the past three years and has only recently been fully staffed. The funds are available because the City's excess insurance carrier is reimbursing the City for the officer currently out on leave. It is hereby requested that City Council temporarily authorize the over hire of one police officer position to assist in the efficiency of recruitment, training and reduction of overtime. A Resolution is attached for City Council consideration. DAVID H.
