STAFF ANALYSIS:
The United States Department of Homeland Security awarded grant funds to the State
of California to help prepare for, prevent and respond to terrorist attacks and other
major disasters. This money is administered through Riverside County, the City of Palm
Springs was awarded $50,000 which is to be used for the Cyrun software system.
This system will allow police and fire employees to be rapidly deployed to emergency
situations by improving the ability of officers to receive critical information from Dispatch
on their mobile data computers. It will also allow the departments to share critical data
with other valley agencies. Since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, law
enforcement agencies nation wide have been striving to improve interdepartmental
communications. This project is a major part of the Police Department's efforts to that
goal.
