HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 - MINUTES - 6/26/2002 CITY OF PALM SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MINUTES JUNE 26, 2002 ' An Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, was called to order by Mayor Kleindienst, in the Council Chamber, 3200 Tahquitz Canyon Way, on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at 5:00 p.m., at which time, the City Attorney announced items to be discussed in Closed Session, and at 7:00 p.m., the meeting was convened in open session. ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmembers Mills, Oden, Reller-Spurgin, and Mayor Kleindienst Absent: Councilmember Hodges The meeting was opened with the Salute to the Flag, and a Moment of Silence. REPORT OF POSTING OF AGENDA: City Clerk reported that the agenda was posted in accordance with Council procedures on June 21, 2002. REPORT OF CITY ATTORNEY ON MATTERS DISCUSSED IN CLOSED SESSION (All Entities) - See items on Page 3 of agenda this date. HOUSING AUTHORITY: INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY: FINANCING AUTHORITY: COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY: No Business PRESENTATIONS: None PUBLIC COMMENTS: The following persons spoke in support of the Palm Springs Hot Rod and Bike Weekend. Brenda Wilhide, Palm Springs Mathew Talala, representing Palm Springs Hotel & Hospitality Association Ruthie Frazee, Palm Springs Julie Hunt, Cathedral City Mike Salazar, Palm Springs Johnny Waska, Palm Springs Louis Sanchellis, Palm Springs Steven Martell, Palm Springs The following persons spoke in opposition of the Palm Springs Hot Road and Bike Weekend. Paul Mauret, Palm Springs Le Ann Lee, representing Casa Del Oro Homeowners Association Pastor Tom Rietveld Palm Springs Baptist Church Joy Meredith, Main Street Association 1e Council Minutes 06-26-02, Page 2 The following persons spoke in favor of a municipal electric utility valley-wide. ' Fred Hoover, Palm Desert Sonia Marshall, Cathedral City Gary Bosworth, Desert Hot Springs The following persons spoke in opposition of municipal electric utility valley-wide. Kevin Payne, Southern California Edison Kurt Bagligg, Southern California Edison Scott Kennedy, Palm Springs, stated that Louise's Pantry is a Class I Historic Site and that a portion of the exterior had been demolished; and requested some type of measures be set in place to prevent this type of occurrence in the future. APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA: None. PUBLIC HEARINGS: None COUNCIL COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS/INTERAGENCY REPORTS: Councilmembers reported on various civic and community organizational meetings and events which they attended, subsequent to the last regular ' meeting, and announced upcoming events of community interest. Councilmember Oden requested an update on status of renovation of Louise's Pantry. LEGISLATIVE ACTION: 1. DOWNTOWN PARKING STRUCTURE Recommendation: That the Council approve various trade contracts for the construction of the Downtown Parking Structure. City Manager withdrew the item. 2. ASSIGNMENT OF LEASE 1764— PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Recommendation: That the Council approve a Consent to Assignment of Lease and Option to 1764 and Consent to Encumbrance of Ground Lease Interest and Estoppels. City Manager reviewed the staff report,',no further report was given. Minute Order 7110 as recommended was presented; after which, it was moved by Oden, seconded by Mills and unanimously carried, Hodges absent, that ' M07110 be adopted.
