FISCAL 2000-01 AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANT ACCEPTANCE
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council authorize the City Manager to execute all
necessary paperwork to accept the Fiscal 2000-01 Airport Improvement Program
(AIP) Grant from the FAA in an amount up to $5 million.
SUMMARY:
The Federal Aviation Administration administers the AIP which allocates grants to
commercial service airports. This action would allow the City Manager to accept the
grants on behalf of the City.
BACKGROUND:
All commercial service airports in the country are able to seek funding from the AIP
Palm Springs has an entitlement amount of $3.28 million and may compete for
discretionary dollars. At this time, the Airport expects funding as follows:
Taxiway "W" Phase III $801,501
Million Air Stabilization Project 715,500
Replace Two ARFF Trucks 1,100,000
Airfield Survey 99,000
Hold Rooms - Phase 1 1,343,703
$4,059,704
The attached Resolution would authorize the City Manager to accept grants totaling
$5 million (higher amount in case a last-minute discretionary adjustment is made by

RESOLUTION NO. 20031
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PALM SPRINGS,
CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT THE FISCAL 2000-01 AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAM GRANT OF UP TO$5 MILLION ON BEHALF OF
THE CITY.
WHEREAS the Palm Springs International Airport,as a commercial service airport, mayseek
project funding from the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA)from the Airport Improvement
Program (AIP); and
WHEREAS the Airport has submitted its fiscal2000-01 grant request and the FAA has offered
a grant to the City,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby authorized to accept
grants upto$5 million from the FAA undertheAlP on behalf of the Palm Springs International
Airport.
