HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 - MINUTES - 12/2/1997 CITY OF PALM SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MINUTES DECEMBER 2, 1997 An Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, was called to order by Mayor ffieindienst, in the Council Chamber, 3200 Tahquitz Canyon Way, on Tuesday, December 2, 1997 at 12:00 Noon. ' ROLL CALL: Present: Comxcihnembers Barnes, Hodges, Oden, Spurgin, and Mayor Kleindienst Absent: None The rneethig was opened with the Salute to the Flag, and a moment of silence. REPORT OF POSTING OF AGENDA: City Clerk reported that the agenda was posted in accordance with Council procedures on November 26, 1997. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None COUNCIL COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS/INTERAGENCY REPORTS: None LEGISLATIVE ACTION: 1. 1997 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION - RESULTS Recommendation: That the Council declare tlxe results of the November 4, 1997, General Municipal Election. City Clerk highlighted her memorandum, noting that the voters favored continuation of the (083- Utility User Tax (Measure HH), and that Deyna L. Hodges and Ronald Oden were elected 016) ' to a full four-year term each. She also noted that while the voter turnout in Palm Springs was 32.7% it was higher than other surrounding communities. Resolution 19157 as recommended, was presented; after which, it was moved by Barnes, seconded by Spurgin, and unanunously carried, that R19157 be adopted. 2. SWEAR-IN NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEMBERS City Clerk administered the oath of office to Deyna L. Hodges and Ronald Oden. (0 003)3) 3. COMMENTS BY NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEMBERS Councilmembers Hodges and Oden each offered thanks and appreciation to various family members, individuals, and the City Council for their support; and expressed Optimism and enthusiasm for moving ahead in the next few years in achieving the Council's goals. Councilmembers Barnes, Spurgin and Mayor Kleindienst offered congratulations, and expressions of pleasure at continued positive working relationships among the Council.
