CITY OF PALM SPRINGS
CITY COUNCIL MINUTES
DECEMBER 5, 1995
An Adjourned Regular Meeting of the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, was
called to order by Mayor Maryanov, in the Council Chamber, 3200 Tahquitz Canyon Way, on
Tuesday, December 5, 1995, at 12:15 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Present: Councilmembers Hodges, Kleindienst, Lyons, Reller-
' Spurgin, and Mayor Maryanov
Absent: None
The meeting was opened with the Salute to the Flag, and an invocation by Dr. Laidlaw, P.S.
Baptist Church .
REPORT OF POSTING OF AGENDA: City Clerk reported that the agenda was posted in
accordance with Council procedures on December 1, 1995.
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
a) The following persons thanked the Council and individual members, i.e., Arthur
Lyons and Mayor Maryanov, for their service to the community:
Burt Spivack, Mark Bragg, Linda Cooper Lee, Rev. Jerry Johnson of the Lily
of the Valley Church. Award was presented to Mayor Maryanov from the Boys
& Girls Club; and from Lou Piper to both the Mayor and Mr. Lyons, on behalf
of the Chamber of Commerce.
LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
1. 1995 GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
' Recommendation: That the Council declare the results of the 1995 General Municipal
Election, and special elections concerning Measures L and M (Gaming and Airport
issues).
City Clerk reviewed her memorandum, noting the election of Jeanne Reller-Spurgin and
Stanley Barnes for four-year terms on the City Council; of William Kleindienst as Mayor (083-
for four years; and the approval of Measures L and M, regarding gaming and the Airport 013)
master plan, respectively. She noted that unless other than the candidates noted are
elected as an outcome of the recount in process, there will be no other official results of
the election, and the ranking of unsuccessful candidates will remain as certified.
Resolution 18745, as recommended, was presented; after which, it was moved by
Kleindienst, seconded by Lyons, and unanimously carried, that R18745 be adopted.
2. COMMENTS BY OUTGOING COUNCILMEMBERS
Comments of appreciation to family, friends and the community were offered by Mayor
Maryanov, and Councilmember Lyons. Mr. Lyons also presented his awards to the "Get
a Life Chub."
3. SWEAR-IN NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEMBERS
Newly elected Comicilmembers Barnes & Reller-Spurgin; and Mayor Kleindienst were
sworn into office, and provided Certificates of Election; after which, each thanked their
families, committees, and the community for their support.
4. OTHER COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Hodges also thanked the outgoing Mayor and Councilmember Lyons for
their work on the Council; and expressed her support and positive expectation for the (070-
coming two years, and her commitment to carry out the voters desires in terms of the 001)
measures adopted at tine election.

5. MAYOR PRO TEM
Mayor called for nominations for Mayor pro tem; after which, Jeanie Reller-Spurgin was (070--
nominated; there were no further nominations; and Ms. Reller-Spurgin was elected Mayor 001:1
pro tern for the coming year.
ADJOURNMENT '
There being no further business, Mayor declared the meeting adjourned.
