Ready, City Manager BY: Police Department and Department of Finance and Treasury SUMMARY Each year the Palm Springs Police Department receives funding from the State of California to supplement the Department's budget. This fiscal year the City will receive $100,000. No matching funds are required to obtain these funds. There is also $103,582.60 remaining from previous years. The funds will be used to purchase new computer components and technology and communications equipment, including hardware, program software, and other equipment essential to installation, use and maintenance. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt Minute Order No. approving an expenditure plan for$202,000 from a Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF) Grant from the State of California. STAFF ANALYSIS: The Palm Springs Police Department annually receives funds from the State to supplement the Department's budget. These funds are distributed through the Counties in the State. The City has been awarded $100,000 for Fiscal Year 2006-07. The City also has $103,582.60 remaining from prior grants. It is proposed that the funds be used to purchase new computer components and technology and communications equipment, including hardware, program software, and equipment essential to installation, use and maintenance. The bill amended Government Code Sections 30061 and 30063, requiring City Councils to appropriate the funds exclusively for law enforcement.
