APPROVE CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 TO AMERICAN ASPHALT REPAIR
& RESURFACING CO., INC.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve Construction Change Order No. 1 to American Asphalt
Repair& Resurfacing Co., Inc., for a decrease of $31,285.73 for the 1999 / 2000
Annual Slurry Seal Program, City Project No. 00-02.
SUMMARY:
This Change Order adds additional striping in two areas per the recommendation of
the City Engineer and the Street Maintenance Supervisor.Total quantities were less
than contract amounts which results in a decrease to the contract.Additional working
days are being added for the additional striping. Net contract Change Order is a
decrease of $31,285.73
BACKGROUND:
On April 5, 2000, City Council of the City of Palm Springs awarded American
Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co., Inc. the contract for the 1999 / 2000 Annual
Slurry Seal Program Project.
Per the recommendation of the City Engineer, Item A is proposed to be added to this
contract from C.P. 93-49, Heritage Trail Bikeway. The proposed striping was deleted
from the Heritage Trail Bikeway project due to the slurry work on Alejo Road, Belardo
Road and Museum Drive. The cost is an agreed price lump sum amount of
$4,510.00.
Per the recommendation of the Street Maintenance Supervisor, Item B is proposed
to be added because the City's striping equipment is non-operational. The striping
equipmentwas due for replacement in 1998 butfunding, atthis time, is not available
due to cost ($100,000.00). For now, the City will contract out all of its striping. The
striping for the streets listed in the change order needs to be done because the
visibility of the existing striping is in bad condition. The cost is an agreed price lump
sum amount of$9,396.00.
All slurry street quantities were measured by both the City and the Contractor. Final
As-Built quantities were less than contract amounts. The City deleted the following
streets because of current or future construction:
Tachevah Drive from Avenida Caballeros to Sunrise Way
Mel Avenue from Indian Canyon Drive to Via Miraleste
Avenida Palos Verdes from Paseo El Mirador to Mel Avenue

Museum Drive. Adding 31 working days for additional striping throughout the City.
