AIRPORT PARKING RATES
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve the proposed parking rates to be effective February 1,
2001 and amend the City's Comprehensive Fee Schedule.
SUMMARY:
Airport staff and APCOA, INC. have analyzed airport parking rates and with the Airport
Commission recommend modification of parking fees.
BACKGROUND:
APCOA, INC. is the Airport's long-term parking management firm and is one of the
largest firms specializing in parking management in the country.
Recently, Airport management requested that APCOA review possible parking rate
restructure and submit a recommendation to the Airport for review.
After meeting with APCOA, Airport staff met with the Landside Sub-Committee and
subsequently, the Airport Commission, and is recommending an adjustment of parking
rates at the airport.
We recommend you consider the following rates:
PROPOSED EXISTING
$1.00 Each ''/z Hour $1.50 Each Hour
$7.00 Daily Maximum $6.50 Daily Maximum
The proposed rates offer a 33% reduction to approximately 50,000 customers by
reducing the first '/2 hour of parking from $1.50 to $1.00. Additionally, staff believes
that a reduction in rates will attract more customers into the parking lot and reduce
some traffic congestion in front of the terminal. Also, the new rates will be easier for
customers to calculate thereby reducing questions which further delay exiting traffic.
This change in parking rates is estimated to increase parking revenues by 10%, and
airport staff is continuing to work with the Airport Commission to ensure that non-airline
revenues are reviewed and adjusted when reasonable as non-airline revenges allow
airline rates and charges to be as competitive as possible.
At the request of the Airport Commission, parking rates and facilities will be reviewed
annually to ensure fair and reasonable rates as well as a facility that meets the needs
of the traveling public.

would be only the second increase in the last 7 years.
