RE-ROOFING OF VARIOUS FACILITIES
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council award a contract to Al Miller& Sons Roofing for Bid
Schedules A through D, in the total amount of $123,177.00, for the Re-roofing of
Various Facilities, City Project No. 00-13.
BACKGROUND
The 1999/00 budget includes funds for re-roofing of various City Facilities. These
facilities consist of the Police Dept Training Center, the Police Dept Gun Range,
the Leisure Center and the Pavilion Building. The roofs of these facilities are
leaking and need replacement.
The contract was divided into four schedules. Schedule A consists of the
Training Center, Schedule B is the Gun Range, Schedule C is the Leisure Center
and Schedule D is the Pavilion Building.
The material utilized in the reconstruction of these roofs is not only the most cost
effective solution to the repairs needed but also, the design results in more
energy efficiency, as the City will realize a reduction of energy consumption for
both heating and cooling demands, due to the white color and increased
insulation. It is staff's intent to apply for grant funding from the California Energy
Commission (CEC) to possibly offset our costs if the CEC determines that the
material qualifies under a recently proposed energy conservation program soon
to be offered by the State of California.
The plans and specifications were prepared by Lance C. O'Donnell, Architect.
The project was advertised for bids on October 8 and 14, 2000, and at 2:00 p.m.
on October 31, 2000, the Procurement Division received bids from the following
contractors:
