HomeMy WebLinkAbout11/15/2000 - STAFF REPORTS (7) a DATE: November 15, 2000 TO: City Council FROM: City Engineer CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NO. ONE (1) TO GRANITE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve Construction Change Order No. One (1) to Granite Construction Company, for an increase of$80,277.65 to the Mid-Valley Parkway Phase 3, Gene Autry Trail and Ramon Road Traffic Signal and Street Improvements, City Project 99-13. BACKGROUND: On August 2,2000, Council awarded Granite Construction Company a contract for construction of the Mid-Valley Parkway Phase 3, Gene Autry Trail and Ramon Road Traffic Signal and Street Improvement project. This change order consists of extra work being added to the project that includes Ramon Road improvements obligated to be constructed by Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, Inc., ("Lowe's). Council will consider approval of the Ramon Road improvement reimbursement agreement between the City and Lowe's as a separate agenda item;that agreement facilitates advance payment for the extra work that is the subject of Contract Change Order No. 1. The construction of Lowe's Ramon Road improvements by Granite will avoid conflicts that would have occurred between the City's project and Lowe's. With Granite currently under contract to construct City Project 99-13, adding Lowe's work to the project allows the entire portion of Ramon Road to be widened and modified at the same time, avoiding conflicts between the two projects and challenges for traffic control and public safety. The extra work includes removal and relocation of existing driveway entrances, removal and reconstruction of existing raised median improvements, and traffic striping and signage. The total adjustment to the agreement for the extra work is $80,277.65, 100% of which is paid for by the advance payment made by Lowe's, pursuant to the Ramon Road improvement reimbursement agreement. Sufficientfunds to facilitate this change order are available in account number 134- 4498-50133 (Local Measure A MVP Ph 3). 1 I IV DAVID J. Conflicts between Ramon Road improvements by Lowe's and improvements constructed by Granite required coordination between the two projects and construction of all Ramon Road improvements under one contract by Granite. The costs of Lowe's improvements to be paid to the City under a separate reimbursement agreement. D.
