LEE WEIGEL, CIIIEF OF POLICE SUBJECT: FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING FOR LAPTOP COMPUTERS RECOMMENDATION: Iold a public hearing and accept an award in the amount of$118,596 of LLEBG (Local Law Enforcement Block Grant) fiords to purchase laptop computers for the Police Department. BACKGROUND: The Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded the Police Department $118,596 for FY 2000. A local match of$13,177 is required and will be funded out of the Asset Forfeiture Account. The monies will be used to purchase 100 laptop computers for the Department. The BJA requires the City to hold a public hearing to discuss the use of LLEBG grant monies. We will be returning to Council in November 2000 for approval to purchase the computers. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs. The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the use of the State and Federal law enforcement grant funds to purchase laptao romputers for the Palm Springs Police Department. An opportunity will be given at said hearing for all interested persons to be heard.
