SUBJECT: FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING FOR LAPTOP COMPUTERS
RECOMMENDATION:
Iold a public hearing and accept an award in the amount of$118,596 of LLEBG (Local Law
Enforcement Block Grant) fiords to purchase laptop computers for the Police Department.
BACKGROUND:
The Federal Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded the Police Department $118,596 for
FY 2000. A local match of$13,177 is required and will be funded out of the Asset Forfeiture
Account. The monies will be used to purchase 100 laptop computers for the Department. The
BJA requires the City to hold a public hearing to discuss the use of LLEBG grant monies.
We will be returning to Council in November 2000 for approval to purchase the computers. No
additional budget appropriation is necessary.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
STATE AND FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT FUNDS
CITY OF PALM SPRINGS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California,
will hold a public hearing at its meeting on October 18, 2000, which begins at 7:00pm in the
City Council Chamber, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs.
The purpose of the hearing is to discuss the use of the State and Federal law enforcement
grant funds to purchase laptao romputers for the Palm Springs Police Department.
An opportunity will be given at said hearing for all interested persons to be heard.
Questions regarding the application of these funds may be directed to Lee Weigel, Chief of
