APPROVE PURCHASE OF FURNITURE FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
That City Council approve purchase of furniture for the Police Department from
Seal Furniture, Riverside, California, awarding Bid No. 01-06 in the amount of
$25,050, Including tax and delivery, plus additional furniture in an amount not to
exceed $9,000 via participation in a County of Riverside Master Agreement with Seal
Furniture, total purchase not to exceed $34,050.
BACKGROUND:
Construction is currently underway to convert the basement of the Police Department
from an open area, which has been utilized for storage,to offices which are required to
support expanded law enforcement activities related to narcotics enforcement in
cooperation with other law enforcement agencies (Narcotics Co-location Offices),
Police Department staff met with several furniture providers to develop specifications
for furnishing 30 work cubicles,4 offices, a conference room, an investigators area, an
interview room and a reception area.
The personnel that will share the office area of the Narcotics Co-location offices are as
follows:
Palm Springs Narcotics Task Force 1 Supervisor, 9 Agents, and
1 Clerical staff
Riverside County Sheriff's Department
Special Investigations Bureau-East 1 Supervisor, 2 Clerical Staff
And 9 Agents
Coachella Valley Narcotics Task Force 2 Supervisors, 3 Clerical Staff
And 11 Agents
There will be three separate task force groups housed in the co-location area, all of
which represent Coachella Valley Law Enforcement.
At the time the bid was advertised and bid documents were released, some of the
requirements were still being developed . It was anticipated that these items could be
added to the award recommendation to City Council after bids were received.
Staff believed, based on prior experience, that the successful vendor would extend the
discount rate to include additional requirements. This is indeed the case, because the
low bidder holds a Master Contract with the County of Riverside for the brands of
furniture required and will provide the additional requirements at that discount rate.
It is requested that City Council award the bid to Seal Furniture of Riverside in the
amount of$25,050 and authorize purchase of additional furniture in an amount not to 811
exceed $9,000. Total purchase not to exceed $34,050.
